A fresh industry study reveals upward trends in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among engineering firms, with 42% of companies eyeing investments in new technologies. Conducted by Deltek, the Clarity industry study surveyed UK professional services in architecture, engineering, and consulting, uncovering pivotal trends in growth strategies and tech advancements. Project-based businesses are increasingly recognizing technology and automation as vital for profitability, with AI leading this charge, affecting everything from recruitment processes to project timelines.

As firms strategize for 2025, their top priorities include investment in AI (42%), enhancements to cybersecurity (42%), and effective implementation of new technologies (40%). More than half of respondents—55%—view emerging technologies like AI and 53% consider data analytics as crucial for future organizational success. Benefits from AI implementation resonate strongly: increased profits (62%), improved operational efficiency (58%), and lowered overhead costs (46%).

Interestingly, small- and medium-sized firms are seeking to bridge the gap with larger players by ramping up AI investments. Neil Davidson, Deltek’s VP for the professional service sector, states that professional services firms are already witnessing growth opportunities driven by digital transformation. The report indicates greater confidence in tracking project metrics, underlining the noteworthy progress firms are making with tech implementations ahead of schedule. Davidson believes that effective tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) is vital for optimizing processes and productivity to meet firm goals.

To dive deeper, a free webinar titled “Unlocking the Potential of AI in Ground Engineering” is scheduled for 29 April from 11 am to 12 pm BST.
