Kansas City’s Digital Sandbox has announced funding for five new startups, each receiving up to $20,000, aimed at accelerating innovation in sectors like healthcare and education. Notable startups include Resonus, a political information platform, and KaBloom, offering a speech therapy app. These ventures, along with others, will benefit from mentoring and resources to enhance their development.

Kansas City is buzzing with innovation as five new startups have secured funding from Digital Sandbox, providing them the financial boost they need to disrupt their respective industries. These ventures, covering sectors from healthcare to education, are embedded within the tech-forward environment of the UMKC Innovation Center and Technology Venture Studio. Each startup will gain access to up to $20,000 in project funding along with crucial mentoring.

Among the selections, Resonus is a notable entrant—a political information platform designed to connect users with local government. This startup aims to foster targeted conversations, allowing citizens to discuss significant issues with local officials and neighbors. Mitch Mabrey, the CEO and founder, whose name is familiar in the cleantech field for co-founding Spear Power Systems, leads the charge. “Digital Sandbox KC will enable the development of our Resonus Conversations software so that select Kansas City area residents will be able to try it this spring,” he shared.

Jill Meyer, the senior director at Technology Venture Studio, expressed excitement about the new startups’ potential. The selected companies each show impressive promise in terms of innovation and growth, aligning with the Sandbox’s mission to nurture technological entrepreneurship in the area. “We can’t wait to see how this latest round of startups will accelerate,” Meyer stated, highlighting her anticipation for their impact on local industries.

Besides Resonus, the lineup of freshly funded startups includes KaBloom, a digital health initiative from Erin Minoski, which provides a new app for speech therapy. On | Sight, led by Alex Snook, is on a mission to change the trucking game by improving driver check-ins and combating freight fraud with smart digital solutions. Meanwhile, Produce Matrix, founded by Rich Chungong, develops solutions for local farmers’ markets, smoothing out administrative headaches while making nutritious foods accessible to the community.

Lastly, Xogos Gaming, spearheaded by Zack Edwards, is pushing educational boundaries. It’s using gaming to transform the learning experience, promoting personalized education through engaging platforms that promise to keep students motivated and using fun as a teaching tool.

These startups are set to join a family of 220 other entrepreneurs who have leveraged Digital Sandbox support since 2013, proving that Kansas City is a fertile ground for innovative ideas.
