A fresh initiative is on the horizon at Elon University, aiming to bolster collaboration on artificial intelligence through a series of engaging sessions. Eight faculty members will present their research over the upcoming spring months, with presentations scheduled in February, March, and April. Organized by Mustafa Akben and Sagun Giri, these events aim to invite faculty, staff, students, and even community members to dive into the expansive world of AI.
The series, designed to foster an interdisciplinary AI research network, promises a valuable platform for attendees to not just absorb information but actively engage with one another. Each session will kick off with a 45-minute research presentation, only to transition into a networking hour, where discussions can flow freely and potential collaborations can take shape.
Akben, director of AI integration at Elon, highlighted the essence of this initiative, saying it’s intended to lay the groundwork for a more connected research community. “This initiative is more than just a series of presentations – it’s the foundation for an interdisciplinary AI research network,” he said.
The sessions kick off on February 6, with Anne-Marie Iselin, a psychology associate professor leading the charge. Following up, on March 5, Su Dong from management will share insights. The series continues with Thibault Morillon from finance on March 26, and then we have Qian Xu, a strategic communications expert, offering his expertise on April 2.
Then, there’s Shannon Zenner on April 16 from communication design, who will share her research. The lineup also includes Paula Rosinski, the director of Writing Across the University, on April 23, and wrapping things up, Byung Lee in communication design will take the stage on April 30. Finally, Cheng (Chris) Chen will cap off the series on May 13. Each date promises a unique glimpse into the workings of AI in various fields.
