Completed in six months, it features challenges in character portrayal and emotional expressions. In a revolutionary stride for cinema, Kannada writer-director Narasimha Murthy is set to release “Love You,” hailed as the world’s first AI-generated feature film, according to The Times of India. Murthy, who wears dual hats as producer and director, aims to make history with a record-setting premiere on a single screen. Besides him, the only other contributor was Nuthan, an artistic savant turned AI technician, as they utilized around 30 licensed AI tools for their ambitious project.
The creation of this 95-minute film, adorned with 12 songs, stretched over six intense months of labor. Despite its groundbreaking nature, Murthy voiced concerns about certain limitations. Specifically, a regional censor noted inconsistencies in character portrayal throughout various scenes. Also, Murthy faced hurdles in mimicking genuine emotional expressions and achieving accurate lip-sync.
Nuthan reflected on the rapid advancements in AI, remarking that the tools employed for “Love You” are already outdated. He shared, “If we recreated the same film today, it would be a thousand times better,” emphasizing the swift evolution within AI technology. He recounted his journey into AI from a background in graphic design and ad filmmaking, recalling how the process was riddled with experimentation.
While “Love You” claims the title of the first AI-generated feature film, it is noteworthy that another AI film, “Naisha,” released its trailer on February 27. This project features entirely AI-generated visuals and characters, depicting the life of Naisha, a Bengali-Mizo girl, and Zain, a rapper and swimmer, set to hit theaters in May 2025 under the helm of director Vivek Anchalia.
Additionally, Intelliflicks Studios is preparing to adapt the novel “Maharaja in Denims” into a film that centers on a contemporary boy who believes he embodies the spirit of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In Hollywood, Staircase Studios AI is ambitiously aiming to launch 30 AI films over the next few years, starting with “The Woman With Red Hair,” now in production, directed by Brett Stuart. The first five minutes of this cinematic piece were previously released online.
