Experts emphasized the ethical responsibilities of PR professionals in combating misinformation while leveraging AI as an enhancement tool. The event underscored the importance of communication, collaboration, and critical thinking in today’s digital age, marking the launch of the PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter’s new website.

On National Public Relations Day 2025, the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) gathered at IIT-Bhubaneswar to explore the theme of responsibly using Artificial Intelligence in PR to combat misinformation. Esteemed professionals shared insights on the intersection of technology and ethical communication, emphasizing the critical role of PR in today’s digital landscape.

Professor Shreepad Karmalkar, the director of IIT-Bhubaneswar, underlined that AI’s effectiveness hinges on the intent behind its use. “As custodians of communication, PR professionals carry a deep responsibility not just to inform, but to influence ethically,” he commented. The focus on communication, collaboration, and critical thinking serves as vital instruments for utilizing AI responsibly.

Sudhi Ranjan Mishra, Chairman of the PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter, emphasized that in the social media era, the obligations of PR practitioners are heightened in addressing misinformation. Their ability to influence public discourse is crucial now more than ever.

Rohit Dubey, Vice-President and head of Corporate Communications at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, observed that “AI in PR is an augmenter, not a replacer.” Those who leverage AI technologies discover enhanced efficiency that improves their capabilities rather than threatens their roles.

In conjunction with the event, the PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter launched their new website, www.prsibhubaneswar.in, marking a significant step in their digital presence and outreach.

The discussions at the National Public Relations Day highlighted the imperative for PR professionals to navigate the complexities introduced by AI with integrity. The collective insights reaffirmed the significance of ethical communication and the exciting potential AI has to revolutionize the PR landscape, provided it’s used responsibly. By embracing technology thoughtfully, PR can play a pivotal role in countering misinformation, fostering collaboration, and enhancing critical dialogue.
